Brush Up Your Shakespeare with Carolyn

For Ages 13-19

Gain the confidence to take on any Shakespearean text in this introductory class taught by Studio East’s new Artistic Director, Carolyn Agan. Students will learn the fundamentals of text analysis, discuss the legacy of Shakespeare in performance, gain tools to choose an audition monologue, and recieve live coaching for any piece they have already prepared. This class is valuable for Shakespeare beginners as well as those with some prior experience interested in expanding their skills. This is a great workshop for students auditioning for our spring production of As You Like It, or any students looking for an introduction or work session on these classics.
Audition 101 Workshop

Perfect for first time auditioners, students will learn all about the audition process including what a director is looking for and how to select a monologue and song in this 3-hour workshop. You will leave this workshop with all of the materials and knowledge for your next audition. This is a great workshop if you are planning to audition for our next show "Matilda" This workshop will teach your students how to prepare for an acting audition, musical audition, and callback. Sign up for "Audition Coaching", happening the following weekend, if you'd like 30 minutes of private coaching on your audition.
Audition Coaching

Get 30 minutes of private coaching on your upcoming audition. You will work with a monologue coach for 15 minutes and a vocal coach for 15 minutes. Please hold the entire time block listed. However, in the week before your coaching session you will be assigned a 30-minute time between the window of 12:30pm & 3:30pm. Students must come to the coaching with audition pieces memorized and with sheet music for the vocal coach. If you need help deciding what to prepare, please attend the Audition 101 Workshop the previous weekend.
Super Mario Bros Day

For K - 6th graders
No school? Make it a Studio Day! Spend a day acting, singing, dancing, and creating characters inspired by the classic video game and movie characters Mario, Luigi, Peach and more! No previous movie or game knowledge needed though. Students will explore the theme through scene-work, songs, sketches, theatre games, and crafts. A full day of theatrical fun!
Drama Bugs: Superhero Adventures!

For students 4 yrs old - Kindergarten
Exploring new worlds through drama is a great way to build confidence and communication skills. This class theme is “Superhero Adventures!” Students will play games, read stories, and sing songs related to saving the day! Together we’ll unleash their inner drama bug! Young performers learn to create crazy characters and tell stories as they work as individuals and cooperatively in this super fun, high-energy class.

Acting 1: Creating Characters

For 3rd - 5th graders
The actor's job is to bring a character to life. Having the tools to build and develop a character are crucial skills for any actor. This class will help students build and create distinct, memorable characters, and apply them to scenes and monologues. This will give them techniques that can be used on any scripted material that they are working with, be it a monologue for an audition, or performing a character on stage.

Broadway Kids: Lion King

For K - 2nd graders
In this mini-musical, students learn basic rehearsal techniques and vocabulary as they put together a show! This original script based on "The Lion King" features enough roles for every student and the classic song “Hakuna Matata”. We will work with a script, rehearse our play, and share with our friends and family!
